Steve Abbott was a man of family, faith and community. Always upbeat and had a smile on his face, no matter how good or how bad the day had been.

Throughout his battle with Leukemia, he touched hearts even more by selflessly encouraging random acts of kindness.

“Something so small can create massive change and have huge, lasting positive effects on so many”.

In Steve’s name, Trikats are honored to give this annual award to a team member who has had a positive impact on their community.

  • Did you see a fellow Trikat volunteering at a race and felt they went above and beyond?
  • Did a teammate make an impact through a random act of kindness?

Random Acts of Kindness examples:

1)     Each time I saw Tom at the Grand Rapids Tri, he was helping someone. He started with helping athletes take off their wetsuits then went out on the run course and handed out water at the aid station. Then I saw him at the finish cheering everyone on and he helped a few athletes after they crossed the finished line and couldn’t walk.

2)     Monica works with underprivileged youth athletes. She reaches out to many of the race directors to get these young athletes into local races. She collects used running shoes and swim caps to help with the costs of the program.
