Weekly Open Water Swim (OWS) Details
You must be a Trikat member to participate due to insurance and liability reasons.
Where: Robert Morris Park – 8415 East H Ave, Comstock - 3 miles east of Sprinkle Road before Echo Valley.
When: 5:30 – 7:00 pm - Beginning mid May through mid Sept (TBD - watch the calendar for specific dates).
REMINDER: We are NOT allowed to do OWSs any other date/time at the the park. Robert Morris Park rules are very specific in that they do NOT allow swimmers outside of the designated swim area, or to use any type of blow up buoy, raft, or toy. We have an exception to this approved by their board to conduct OWS as scheduled. Also, our liability insurance only covers official Trikat training events. Please DO NOT go there stating you are a Trikat and want to do a swim on non-OWS days. We LOVE this park and want to be able to continue using it for all members.
Park Permits: Trikat members receive a discounted annual park pass for $20 (reg. $35) for the first 4 weeks. There is a park ranger hut right before the parking lot on the right. Just let the park worker know you’re a member for the discount. You must have the sticker placed on your window, be sure you are driving the car you will take to the park each week. Please be mindful of the speed limit as there are disc golfers crossing the road. Please STOP at the stop sign!
What: A marked swim course with large buoys to practice sighting. Distances will range from 200-600 yards. You can swim to the first buoy and back for a shorter distance, or do multiple laps around the course. We vary the distance to accommodate all levels of swimmer ability and distances our athletes are training for.
Safety: All swimmers must wear a safety buoy regardless if you are wearing a wetsuit. We always have extra swim caps if you need one and now have 10 safety buoys if you need to borrow one. We will have 1-2 support kayaks paddling in case anyone needs assistance during their swim. We always have extra swim caps if you need one and now have 10 safety buoys if you need to borrow one.
Weather: Please check Facebook and email for updates if there is questionable weather. We will still swim if there is a light rain as long as it is not too cold for our safety kayakers. If there is lightning spotted within 10 miles everyone must exit the water immediately. We will wait 30 minutes without lightning before allowing anyone to get back in the water.
Alcohol: Alcohol is NOT allowed in the park.
Volunteers: We are always looking for volunteers to assist with checking swimmers in/out, as well as safety kayakers. You have to show up by 5:15 to assist as we have all the gear and kayak equipment.
After Swim Social/Rehydration & Nourishment: TBD - we'll see where people want to go.
